Tango Porteño

A couple of days ago went to see a Tango Porteño show. Although, you can get a taste of the sensual dance all over the city, nothing seen before comes even close to this representation.   

The old movie theater which some time ago belonged to Metro Goldwyn Mayer, is today a shelter for the attractive tango.

Once you’ve walked through the elegant doors, you’ll be introduced to a first class experience, which comes straight from the Argentinean history.

In the show you’ll find a rainbow of tango styles, ranging from the authentic Argentinean version, to the American ballroom one. 

I’m clearly not an expert, but the local version, appears more seductive, it’s like a game in which the dancers pursue each other until the female gives in to the advances of her lover, followed by an provocative manifestation of their attraction for each other, while jealousy and the fear of being left, are simple bonuses to such a great love.

The symbolism in the show will definitely astonish you. 

Every act, dance, body movement is charged with sexual energy, becoming something similar to the most fabulous foreplay.

Luxuriant costumes versus simple, poor homes, sexy Argentinean tango versus its American interpretation, the innocence of some female dancers versus the brothels and night clubs in which they move, all these contrasts only increase the sexual tension and the electricity felt by the public in the humid air.

Brilliant the director who has orchestrated the whole Tango Porteño; he played just wonderfully with the idea of sexual ambiguity, experimenting with concepts which even today, are quite taboo. 

The whole show is based on the haze of sexual temptation, being a continuous warning about the tenebrous beauty of promiscuity.

When finally the last curtain will fall, you’ll see how your world went from black and white to color.
